Aragog is an Acromantula (a giant magical talking spider) raised by Hagrid and later living in the Forbidden Forest. His wife is Mosag.

Aragog died in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.


Aragog is a spider the size of a small elephant that lives in a hollow in the Forbidden Forest. He has a greying body and is blind.

Discovered in chapter 15, Aragog

Aragog explains to Harry and Ron that Hagrid reared him inside Hogwarts and that he was wrongly believed to be the monster behind the attacks. Although Aragog and his family decline to harm Hagrid because he has been a friend to them for many years, Aragog intends to let his family kill Harry, Ron and Fang. The spiders are eventually scared off by the Ford Anglia.
