Introduction[]

The Black family tapestry hangs on the wall of the drawing room at number twelve, Grimmauld Place. An immensely old creation, it is faded and looks as though it has been gnawed by Doxys in places. The tapestry shows the Black family tree as far back as the Middle Ages, golden thread linking each member of the family. The large words at the top of the tapestry reads The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black and their motto: 'Toujours pur'.

Discovered in chapter 6, The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black[]

Sirius suspects that his mother put a Permanent Sticking Charm on the back of the tapestry, to prevent it from being taken down. Those members of the family that have been disowned are burned off the tapestry, leaving a charred hole rather like a cigarette burn. Amongst those are Sirius Black, Andromeda Tonks and Sirius's uncle, Alphard Black. The offspring of those members of the family are not added the tapestry, so Sirius's cousin Nymphadora Tonks does not appear.
