The Bloody Baron is one of the ghosts of Hogwarts. He is the Slytherin House Ghost. According to the Slytherin welcome message, he is quite friendly but towards the rest of the school he has a creepy reputation.

The Bloody Baron in the books

The Bloody Baron appears several times in the books.

In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry manages to get rid of Peeves temporarily by pretending to be the Baron while under the Invisibility Cloak. This scene is not on Pottermore, however.


The Bloody Baron is the Slytherin house ghost. He has a gaunt face and blank eyes, and his robes are stained with silver blood. He is the only one at Hogwarts who can control Peeves.

Nearly Headless Nick tells the Gryffindor students that the Baron has been insufferable about the consistent Slytherin victory in the House Championship over the past 6 years. The Baron is seated next to Draco Malfoy at the feast.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Discovered in chapter 8, The Deathday Party

The Bloody Baron attends Nearly Headless Nick’s Deathday Party, but the other ghosts avoid him.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Discovered in chapter 12, The Triwizard Tournament

The Hogwarts ghosts held a council meeting to decide whether Peeves would be allowed to attend the start-of-term feast. The Bloody Baron put his foot down at the suggestion, and refused to allow the poltergeist to go.
