Harry purchases his wand at Ollivanders during his first visit to Diagon Alley. It is not the first wand he tried, but the others did not choose him.

The wand was broken in 1997 and repaired in 1998. Meanwhile, it was broken he used a 10-inch Balckthorn wand.


"Harry's Wand" is first discovered in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, chapter 5, Diagon Alley, "Ollivanders".

Harry’s wand is made of holly wood with a phoenix-feather core; it measures eleven inches and according to Ollivander is nice and supple. The feather inside Harry’s wand belongs to a phoenix that gave two; the other forms the core of Lord Voldemort’s wand.
