The House Cup is mentioned on Pottermore in "The End-of-Year Feast".

From the Story

Housecup2

The House Cup being awarded in the last moment of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The House Cup is awarded to the Hogwarts house whose members have earned the most points during the year. Hogwarts Professors give points for actions that reflect well on a student's house, such as academic achievement and bravery. The students and professors are very competitive for this honour.

When Harry arrives at Hogwarts, Gryffindor have not won the cup in six consecutive years. At the end of the year, Dumbledore awards last-minute points to Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville for their actions in protecting the Philosopher's Stone. Gryffindor wins the cup, to a tumultuous response from everyone except the Slytherins.

The Pottermore House Cup

Users of Pottermore are able to earn House Points by successfully brewing potions, winning duels and finding objects in the moments. The points of the four houses' users are added up to give a grand total, shown in the Great Hall. The period is usually close with the original release date of the book on Pottermore, but new users can still get points from previously-release books with points adding to the current period. With the exception of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the period usually begins immediately after the previous award has been awarded and end a brief period after a book has been completely released on Pottermore. About a week before the award took place, Pottermore staff concealed the house points and sent each user a message. All the numbers for the points were hidden except for their last three digits. The numbers looked like, "XXX,XXX,111," for example. The house winner were awarded with a mini cup banner under their house banner during the next book and with some other rewards.

On August 20, 2015, Pottermore announced that it was ending the House Cup competition after the eighth cup, on September 9, 2015.[1]
