From the Story[]
"James Potter was Harry Potter's father. Voldemort murdered him when Harry was just a year old."
"Harry resembles him greatly: James also wore glasses and had untidy black hair."
Discovered in Book 3, Chapter 18, Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs[]
Lupin tells Harry that James, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew worked out the truth behind his monthly disappearances when they were at school together. The three friends decided to become Animagi as a way of accompanying Lupin during his transformations. It took them almost three years to work out how to become Animagi, but they finally managed it in their fifth year. The friends began to explore the school grounds every month during the full moon; James's Animagus form was so large that, with Black's help, he was able to keep the werewolf Lupin in check. James's nickname was Prongs. Lupin tells Harry that James and Severus Snape severely disliked each other when they were at school. When a prank played on Snape, by Black, almost resulted in him discovering Lupin in his werewolf form, James went after Snape and pulled him back, at great risk to both their lives.
Discovered in Book 4, Chapter 34, Priori Incantatem[]
A shadowy form of James Potter appears from Voldemort's wand as the effects of Harry and Voldemort's battle occur. The shadow of James walks close to Harry, and looks down at him, speaking so that Voldemort cannot hear. He tells Harry that when the connection is broken, the shadowy figures of Voldemort's victims will linger for only a few moments, but that they will give Harry the time to get back to the Portkey, and go to Hogwarts. He tells Harry to break the golden thread, encouraging his son to get ready to run. When Harry breaks the bond between his and Voldemort's wand, the shadowy figures of Voldemort's victims close in on Voldemort, shielding Harry from his gaze.
Discovered in Book 7, Chapter 34, The Forest Again[]
When Harry turns the Resurrection Stone over in his hand three times, apparitions of James and Lily, Sirius and Remus appear around him. The four accompany Harry to the cleaning where Voldemort and his followers await. They promise to stay with Harry until the end, invisible to anyone else.
